Methodology

What the search lines measure.

A practical explanation of the monthly figures shown on every race page.

Candidate search interest

Each line is the monthly net search volume for queries whose intent is the candidate. We combine sensible name variants—such as a full name, a commonly used shorter name, punctuation or accent variants, and election-qualified searches—then remove overlaps so the total is not a simple addition of duplicate keyword rows.

Location and source

The estimates come from Google Ads Keyword Planner requests localized to the relevant Ontario municipality. Values are rounded monthly estimates, so a zero can mean that Google did not report measurable volume for that candidate-and-location combination.

Context checks

Large or unusual changes are reviewed against current public web results. When the result is clearly relevant to the local candidate, the candidate’s “Show” panel includes those context links. The chart number itself is not replaced by the web result.

Candidate information

Names, status, websites, phone numbers and email addresses come from publicly listed municipal candidate sources. The source and its check date appear inside each candidate panel.
